To commemorate its 50th anniversary, SfN wanted to tell its story and highlight its achievements through an elegant, keepsake coffee table book. However, only small and low-quality historical photos and figures were available in the organization’s archive.

Yet the content revealed a fascinating insight: just as neurons make synaptic connections, SfN has brought together a diverse array of scientists and leaders. To convey a history of deep connections, I developed a complex typographic system and flexible layout structure with active white space, graphic pointers, a vintage color palette with metallic ink, and placed scientific photos and figures on a rich black background.
