For my thesis project, I was asked to explore a problem space where design could be leveraged to provide a solution. Choosing frequent misunderstandings that surround text messages, I branded my project “Kiss Me Through the Phone.”

I conducted primary and secondary research to uncover the root of the problem: text messages have a low capacity to convey emotion. It became clear that the goal of the project would be to infuse text messages with nonverbal cues.

I developed an app called Aura that uses animated weather backgrounds to communicate emotion. Additional deliverables included research books, a brand book, and promotional materials.
